Sofia is an Associate Licensed Counselor in the state of Alabama who is passionate about helping individuals and families navigate emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. She is currently practicing under the supervision of Mrs. Sarah McCrory in accordance with Alabama requirements for Associate Licensed Counselors.
Sofia earned her Bachelorβs degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Auburn University at Montgomery in 2018. She returned to AUM in 2020 to pursue her Masterβs degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, graduating in 2023. During her graduate program, Sofia completed her clinical practicum and internship at East Central Mental Health Center in Union Springs, Alabama. Following her internship, she continued working with the agency as a Children, Adolescent, and Adult Outpatient Therapist. In this role, she provided individual counseling, conducted assessments, developed individualized treatment plans, supported clients through crisis situations, and worked with clients across a wide range of ages and backgrounds. During her graduate studies, Sofia was also honored with the ALCA Outstanding Graduate Counseling Student Award for Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Sofia later worked as an outpatient therapist in a private practice setting, where she provided counseling services to children, adolescents, adults, and veterans. Her clinical experience includes working with individuals experiencing a variety of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and mental health concerns. She utilizes an individualized approach to counseling and draws from therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), behavior modification, and play and art-based interventions.
In addition to her clinical counseling experience, Sofia has experience working directly with children and families as a Bilingual Parent Educator with Family Guidance Center. In this role, she provides parent education, family support, developmental screenings, resource coordination, and advocacy services in both English and Spanish. This experience has further strengthened her understanding of child development, family dynamics, cultural differences, and the importance of meeting clients and families where they are.
Sofia is fluent in both English and Spanish and has experience providing services to clients in both languages. She enjoys working with individuals across the lifespan and is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and understood.
Sofia is deeply passionate about mental health and considers it a privilege to support others through their personal journeys. She believes that counseling is not simply about addressing challenges, but also about helping clients recognize their strengths, build resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and create meaningful and lasting change. Her goal is to walk alongside each client, providing guidance, advocacy, and support as they work toward greater emotional well-being and a fulfilling life.
